iiiahh is a San Francisco-based studio collaboration, founded in July 2009. It lifts its name from an Italian onomatopoeia [on-uh-mat-uh-pee-uh].
iiiahh makes portable collections that promote idle curiosity. We have common cause with activities such as doodling and hair-twirling that combine a need for activity with a lack of purpose… All the while, hoping for excitement through a chance encounter. You can find iiiahh in places where idle entertainment lies in wait: the barbershop, the airport, and the post office.
Collections are unproductive on purpose.
iiiahh seeks to make art less of a final destination, and more of an everyday resting place. iiiahh does not make objects that are educational or instructional. It wants to fill the space that boredom and waiting usually occupy. It wants to stir up utterings like “oh!” and “hmm…”
Things and their traveling cases can be handled. If things break, then iiiahh will repair or replace.
